I never really put my knitting needles away for summer.

When the days get longer and life moves outside, I simply find myself wanting something a little different on my needles. Something lighter, easy to pick up and, preferably, small enough to bring with me.

That is one of the things I love about summer knitting. It is a chance to explore lighter knitting projects and play with yarns, colours and designs that feel right for warmer days.

Small projects are particularly lovely at this time of year. They are easy to take into the garden, on holiday or wherever summer takes you. And when I feel like knitting something to wear, I often find myself drawn towards shorter sleeves, lighter layers and designs that can become part of a summer wardrobe.

One of my summer favourites is the Magnolia Chunky Summer, a short-sleeved sweater with the Magnolia lace pattern. It is knitted seamlessly in the round and combines the familiar Magnolia details with a shape made for warmer days.

One of my favourite things is seeing where you take your knitting during summer. Different yarns, colours and surroundings can give familiar patterns a completely new expression. For me, knitting has never really belonged to a particular season 🧶 Sometimes all I need is some beautiful yarn, my needles and a quiet place in the shade.
