Grærup Sweater: New Possibilities for Leftover Yarn

Grærup Sweater: New Possibilities for Leftover Yarn

I have always found it difficult to throw away leftover yarn.

Small balls of wool from earlier projects somehow find their way into a basket, waiting for the right project to come along. And every now and then, I take them out, put the colours next to each other and start imagining what they could become.

That is one of the things I love about the Grærup Sweater. Its Fair Isle and structure pattern uses five colours, which makes colour an important part of the design.

When choosing colours, I try not to plan everything too carefully. Sometimes the unexpected combination is the one that gives a sweater its character. A little leftover yarn from one project can suddenly find a completely new place in another.

If you are looking for ideas for leftover yarn or simply want to experiment with colourwork knitting, the Grærup Sweater is a lovely place to start.

Discover the Grærup Sweater knitting pattern and, if you prefer a heavier knit, the Grærup Chunky, which can be knitted using either two or six colours.

One of my favourite things is seeing the colour combinations you create with my patterns. No two yarn baskets are quite the same, and that means every Grærup can become something very personal. If you have knitted your own, I would love to see it. Perhaps it might even become part of one of our Knitting Stories.

For me, leftover yarn is never really just leftover yarn 🧶 Sometimes you simply need to put the colours next to each other and see what happens.

Happy knitting, Camilla
